List of the first editions of Fryderyk Chopin's works

edited by Christophe Grabowski
English translation: Jerzy Ossowski
English editor: John Rink

The list given below, arranged either by opus number or in chronological order for works without opus number, provides basic information about the first editions on a country-by-country basis. It does not include the many Titelauflagen (i.e. editions with new title pages in which the music text itself was not modified) which appeared mainly in Germany. The dates on some of the first editions are disputable because the registration dates of the English first editions frequently turned out to differ from the dates of their actual publication. Hence the dates given below for each first edition show the year only. More detailed information on the dates can be found in the reference sources shown in the bibliography at the end of this article.

The first impression of each first edition described is available at http://www.cfeo.org.uk.
Also, a large number of first or early editions can be found at http://chopin.lib.uchicago.edu.
For this reason it is not necessary to specify the contents of title pages in the descriptions here. These texts can also be found in most printed catalogues, e.g. Chomiński/Turło and Grabowski/Rink.
