International Record Competition Grand Prix du Disque Frédéric Chopin

The Grand Prix du Disque Frédéric Chopin International Record Competition has been held since 1985 and is one of the major projects implemented by the Fryderyk Chopin Society.

The aim of the project is to promote Chopin music recordings made and released by record labels across the world.

Initially the Competition was held every two years. Since 1995 it has been a permanent event accompanying the International Fryderyk Chopin Piano Competition, the prestigious music contest which takes place every five years in Warsaw.

The prizes, in the form of diplomas and medals, are awarded in three categories: (I) contemporary recordings, (II) historical recordings, (III) re-released historical recordings.

The best recordings are selected by a jury comprising seven to nine members, who are celebrated artists, music reviewers and music recording directors. Krzysztof Penderecki, Jan Weber, Krzysztof Szlifirski, Kacper Miklaszewski, Andrzej Jasiński, Janusz Olejniczak and Piotr Paleczny have been among the jurors. The great musical personalities, whose recordings have been awarded, include Cyprian Katsaris (Teldec), Murray Perahia (CBS), Maria Joao Pires (Deutsche Grammophon), Wojciech Świtała (BeArTon), Krystian Zimerman (Deutsche Grammophon) and Claudio Arrau (EMI).

The next Grand Prix du Disque Frédéric Chopin Competition is scheduled for October 2015.
